As we crash headlong into another New Year full of resolutions and expectations there is just one thing that I hope you will add to your YesList and that’s to steer away from the use of single use water bottles.
This is not purely an advert for Water-to-Go but a gentle reminder that there is a different and better way of drinking safe water all around the world however I do use their bottles worldwide and am keen to encourage others to do so too!
We’ve seen the programmes, read the info and as I watch a programme about Prince Charles giving a speech about the scourge of single use plastics way back in 1970, have known for years the problems that we have created for ourselves and the planet that we inhabit.
As an example, in the Khumbu valley in Nepal, home of the infamous trek to Everest Base Camp many trekkers still buy water in bottles thinking that it’s filtered and brought in fresh for them. Unfortunately there are no recycling facilities available so the bottles, once used, are buried or burned. The bottles make their way up the valley empty and on a porters back, where they are then filled up from a tap with some sort of sterilisation added and sealed. Don’t get me wrong, I’m keen to support the local economy however surely this is not a sustainable or responsible way of drinking water where other options are available.
I do feel like I’m preaching to the converted as I know many of you are on the same page but it’s a ripple effect, not only with others seeing what you do and how easy it is but you will probably have seen yourself looking at other areas of your life where you can cut down on single use plastic (shampoo bars, bamboo toothbrushes, thermal mugs…..and so on and so on!!) I was called an Eco Hippy the other day by a very lovely friend as I now use loose leaf tea in my cafetiere rather than tea bags which, mostly, have plastic in the bags. The tea tastes better (in my humble opinion) and is great for my compost heap too!
So with a Happy New Year from me and a 15% discount on all future products you want to buy from Water-to-Go, please add in BRADSHAW15 at checkout. In their words ‘With your help, we will be able to “Change The World One Bottle At A Time”.
